Admission to Secondary School September 2008

All Kent pupils (16,300) were sent the offer of a secondary school place for September 2008. 95% were offered a place at a school named on their Common Application Form, 70% being offered their first preference school. The pattern of allocations at individual schools is broadly similar to previous years. A number of schools are full and some have vacancies.

Approximately 840 pupils could not be offered a place at a school named on their application form. The Secondary Co-ordinated Scheme says that these must be offered a place at the nearest appropriate school with a vacancy. Places were allocated to pupils in the following areas:

  • Dover pupils to Archers Court Maths and Computing College, Astor College for Arts and Castle Community College
  • Thanet pupils to The Marlowe Academy, Hartsdown Technology College, Ellington School for Girls and Hereson School
  • Canterbury district pupils to Chaucer Technology School, Spires Academy and The Community College, Whitstable.
  • Swale pupils to The Community College, Whitstable and NLL Academy
  • Dartford and Gravesham pupils to Axton Chase School and Swan Valley Community School.
  • Maidstone and Malling pupils to NLL Academy, Astor of Hever Community School, The Malling School and Swadelands School
  • Ashford pupils to The Ashford Christ Church School and Towers School
  • Folkestone and Romney Marsh pupils to Folkestone Academy and Brockhill Park Performing College.
  • Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells pupils to Wildernesse School, Tunbridge Wells High School, Borden Grammar School and Highsted Grammar School.

Some parents will, of course, be disappointed that they have received an offer of a place at a school they did not name. Parents should have details of how to lodge an appeal and also how to go on the waiting list. Copies of the appeal and waiting list form are available below.

The advice line number is 01622 694073. You can also contact me for advice by using my online surgery.

Please be aware that Northfleet Technology College, St George’s School, Gravesend Grammar School for Girls and Gravesend Grammar School for Boys operate an independent appeals system (as explained in the FAQ notes). Therefore I am unable to assist with the appeal, although I am happy to offer advice.
