Fighting Tory plans to remove Wardens from Sheltered Housing in Northfleet & Gravesend West.

Ray Parker presents a petition to Kent County Council’s Chairman ‘Fred Wood-Brignall’ on behalf of the Parents, Children and Staff of Lawn Community Primary School Northfleet.

The petition was calling on Kent Highways to improve crossing facilities for the children attending Lawn School.

Kent County Council have at last agreed to install new railings, sign Northfleet High Street, repair the ‘wig-wag signs’ and improve sight lines for the school crossing patrol officer.
Ray Parker & Leslie Christie join campaigners including Northfleet’s Richard Cook to protest against Tory plans to close the QEF Bridge Court Resource Centre in Dartford.

Many disabled people from Northfleet & Gravesend West rely on the QEF Centre for support and social networking.

Tory plans will mean that funding will be withdrawn and the centre will have to close. Labour County Councillors have called the decision in to Scrutiny and will question the Tory Cabinet Member on the rationale behind his decision.
Ray Parker & Leslie Christie have written to all residents (in sheltered accommodation) in Northfleet & Gravesend West to highlight the consultation and have requested that each development responds before the deadline.

Furthermore a formal response has been sent to Kent County Council from the County Councillors highlighting why they think it would be wrong to remove the Wardens from the sheltered complexes.

Over 99% of respondents opposed the cut in Warden support.
One Way St Marks Avenue
St Mark’s/Beresford Road residents for a One Way System.
Ray Parker and Leslie Christie are pursuing a one-way system for St Marks Avenue for vehicles entering from London Road to Cremorne Road and St Marks Avenue/Beresford Road it would also be one-way from Cremorne Road exiting on to London Road. Marina Drive could continue to be two way. We stressed that this was only a suggestion and if the principle was supported Kent County Council professionals would be asked to consult on proper plans.

45% responded with 89% in favour of a one way system.
This will be discussed at the Joint Highways Board in March 2008.
