Zebra Crossing – Hall Road – Northfleet. What are KCC Highways planning to do?Kent Highway Services are proposing to provide a pedestrian crossing facility in the form of an additional zebra crossing to cater for pedestrians crossing this very busy road. These works will involve the relocation of temporary 20mph signs and reconfiguration of the bus lay-by, the reconstruction of the existing footway to accommodate the new crossing points, and High Friction surfacing on the approaches to the crossing. For the precise locations of the proposed works, please refer to the plan on the reverse of this notification. Where will the works take place? The proposed crossing is located at the existing uncontrolled crossing point outside nos 107/109. The 20 mph signs will be relocated approximately 20m to the west. For the precise locations, please see the Notification Plan below. Why KCC Highways want to do this work? There are a large number of pedestrians in the area, particularly during school term times, given the high volumes of traffic using Hall Road, this often results in conflict between pedestrians and vehicles, and consequently difficulty for pedestrians to cross in the vicinity of the proposed crossing. Kent Highway Services are committed to reducing pedestrian injuries and the aim of this crossing is to improve safety for both pedestrian and other road users. How will we carry out the work and how will it affect you?The majority of the works will be carried out using temporary traffic signals; however it will also be necessary to close the road to undertake the High Friction Surfacing. Notification of dates will be erected on site 2 weeks before any planned closure. Any road closures will be fully signed and alternative local diversion routes will be set up and maintained. Every effort will be made to keep disruption for local residents to a minimum. Vehicle access to private properties shall be maintained at all times although there may be odd occasions when the works near existing off street parking facilities are being undertaken, when minor delays could be experienced. When will the work start and how long will it take? The works have been programmed to commence in the week beginning the 7th April 2008, to coincide with the start of the school Easter Holidays. The construction period will be approximately 4 weeks, (subject to suitable weather conditions). The contractor’s normal working hours are between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday although weekend working may be considered in certain areas. How to contact KCC Highways:Should you have any comments to make regarding the proposed zebra crossing, please write to: Julian Cook - Kent Highway Services – West Kent Divisional Office – Joynes House – New Road – Gravesend – DA11 0AT.
