LATEST INFORMATION ON THE PROPOSED ST MARKS AVENUE ONE WAY.
UPDATED WEDNESDAY 25TH MARCH 2008.

Ray Parker and Leslie Christie requested a report on the possibility of making St Mark’s Avenue and it’s neighbouring roads one-way. This should have been reported to the Gravesham Joint Transportation Board on Wednesday 26th March 2008.

Unfortulately, Kent Highways Officers failed to have the report prepared in time. In response to the reports omission Leslie Christie wrote to the Chairman of Gravesham’s Joint Transport Board on Monday 24th March. In his email to Councillor Bill Dyke, Leslie Christie wrote:

Dear Councillor Dyke

I seek your help. I received the agenda for the above meeting on Wed 19th March. but did not read it until the evening of Thursday 20th March. Therefore when I discovered an item missing from it , because of Easter holidays I have not been able to speak directly to anyone about it - thus the e-mail. I could have awaited the meeting but because I want to achieve a solution and not score political points by raising it out of the blue I thought it reasonable to give prior notice.

You will see from the attachments that back in summer 2007 residents in the area concerned raised the issue of one-way traffic in St. Marks Avenue with their Borough Councillors. As County Councillors, and this being a Highways Authority issue, the Borough Councillors raised the issue with Ray Parker and myself. As you can see we consulted the residents (Attacment 1) and had a very high response to the consultation (Attachment 2). Following this Ray Parker and I had a meeting with Mr Wybraniec on 27th November 2007. Because it was so close to the next Joint Transport meeting on the 5th December we agreed that it would be unreasonable to expect a report to that meeting, but made it very clear that a report would go to the following meeting - i.e. 26th March 2008. We informed interested residents of the situation.
We were made aware of the new PIPKIN system and understood that the proposed scheme would have to undergo that test.

In the event I can see no reference to the proposal in the Agenda for the 26th March 2008 and wish to register my strong objection to that omission.

In the circumsatnces I urge you, as Chairman of the Board, to exercise your discretion under Item 20 of the Agenda to include the issue on the Agenda of that meeting.

Your help and understanding on this issue would be appreciated.

As County Councillors for Northfleet & Gravesend West, both Leslie Christie and I will continue to persue this matter with Kent County Council and Gravesham Borough Council.
